Opinion by R Al Bain

While on vacation last week I made some interesting observations. I stayed at one of Michigan’s state parks and to my dismay I found out that the online reservation system used for reserving a campsite has been contracted out to a firm in Ohio! With jobs being in high demand here in Michigan Is this something in the way of “best practices” for the citizens of Michigan who are unemployed? I think not.

Another observation I made was while in a party store purchasing ice for my cooler I observed a very young couple with a child purchasing candy for the child and beer, liquor, and cigarettes. While this may seen insignificant to the average citizen the bottom line is that you the citizen of Michigan paid for it! They used a bridge card! Is this something in the way of “best practices” for the citizens of Michigan whose tax dollars are supposed to help the indigent? Again I think not!

Folks the only answer to these problems perpetrated by those who we elect to serve us and our best interest is to vote them out of office and or re-call them! Again it’s high time we elect those that will look out for the best interest of the citizens of Michigan and not the Party, Special Interest Groups, or their own Political Careers.

NOTE: The Bain Report will be going through some changes in the near future in that the author is contemplating going by-weekly or monthly.

Lessons from Wisconsin

Many observers said it was the biggest loss government unions have ever experienced. “It’s more than a big deal, it’s a huge deal,” said Vincent Vernuccio, Labor Policy Counsel at the Competitive Enterprise Institute. “It will embolden governors and legislators across the country. They’ll know that they can stand up for taxpayers against special interests. “They’ll understand that they might have to endure some pain, but they’ll know they can win in the end and go down in history as people who helped save their states.”

While the state of Wisconsin is the big winner Michigan will still be a big loser as long as we have the current leadership in the legislature in place. You see the union’s best friend in Lansing Senate Majority leader Randy Richardville  has made it publicly clear that Michigan will continue the union’s best practices with his statement in regard to the Walker re-call victory!

“Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville said he doesn’t look to Wisconsin as a model for Michigan and doesn’t really care what happened there. He went on to say “The Wisconsin people and Legislature does things their way, and we do ours our way.” All I can say about that statement is how’s that way been working out for Michigan and it’s citizens? With that statement Michigan will continue down the same broken path!

Dave Agema Endorses Kerry Bentivolio for Congress

True Conservatives of the Michigan Republican Party were rewarded for electing Dave Agema as the new State Committeeman with his endorsement of Kerry Bentivolio a Conservative Candidate for Michigan’s 11th Congressional District. It’s high time we had a Republican who stands for the principles, traditions, and values that the Republican Party was founded upon!

While the “Republican Party Establishment Bosses” scrambled to find a write-in candidate (former State Senator Nancy Cassis) who would be a yes man or in this case a yes woman for the Party to run against Mr. Bentivolio – Agema stood up for the conservatives. This proves we picked the right man for the job as to look out for the best interest of the citizens of Michigan and the constitution and not the Party!

Supreme Court Blesses ObamaCare

To paraphrase former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, the trouble with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money. Now that Obamacare and its tax, subsidizing, and guarantee rules have been upheld by the Supreme Court, the only real question that remains is: When will that money run out?

Given that so many people so easily stand to qualify for such large subsidies simply by keeping their incomes below the caps, Obamacare is virtually guaranteed to cost significantly more than initially projected.

With the law being blessed by the Supreme Court rather than “save, invest, and figure out how to cover your costs,” the incentive has become “pay off your debts, keep your other costs and your income low, and your neighbor will cover your health insurance for you.”

The Selling of America

Turns out, while Americans are still reeling from the aftershocks of our housing bust, a whole lot of people from around the globe are eager to take advantage of the “bust-ortunity” in cheap American homes. One real estate agent in Chicago, for example, observed that 20% of the deals he’s closed so far this year involved buyers from Canada, Australia, and elsewhere.

It’s only natural that this news would scare some people. It raises echoes of the “Rising Sun” period of Japanese economic dominance back in the 1980s, when Japanese firms flooded the American market with bags of cash, buying up everything from Columbia Studios to the Pebble Beach golf course to Rockefeller Center itself.

On one hand, this kind of buying frenzy is likely to rub a few people the wrong way. “The foreigners are coming,” they’ll declaim, with all the jingoistic outrage this implies. It probably doesn’t help that a lot of Americans are out of work these days, can’t get a mortgage, or are underwater on their current homes. So even if they agree that there are good deals in housing to be had, they can’t participate.

5 Million Farmers Sue Monsanto for $7.7 Billion

Launching a lawsuit against the very company that is responsible for a farmer suicide every 30 minutes, 5 million farmers are now suing Monsanto for as much as 6.2 billion euros (around 7.7 billion US dollars). The reason? As with many other cases, such as the ones that led certain farming regions to be known as the ‘suicide belt’, Monsanto has been reportedly taxing the farmers to financial shambles with ridiculous royalty charges. The farmers state that Monsanto has been unfairly gathering exorbitant profits each year on a global scale from “renewal” seed harvests, which are crops planted using seed from the previous year’s harvest.
